MAKEUP OF THE DAY | Natural Makeup for Prom

Prom is around the corner and it’s time to finalize your makeup look.

As a freelance makeup artist, I have to be in tune with the latest trends and the wants of my clients.

This year, the biggest requests I’m getting are natural makeup and winged eyeliner.

Because prom-goers are often under the age of 18, the natural makeup look is perfect and prevents the possibility of looking like a clown.

Here’s the look I put together for one of my clients:IMG_0545

Makeup of the Day | Lime Crime + Urban Decay Vice 2 + the Fun Palette

Lime Crime how I love thee.

Lime Crime does funky, opaque lip colors like no other. Their scent is amazing, they go on smooth and they stay in place, eliminating the need for lip liner. I have eight shades (so far!) but my latest favorite is Chinchilla, a grey with purple undertones.

Here’s how I wore it for the first time:

I chose to focus the attention on the lip color by keeping the eye makeup pretty simple.

While there were a couple of people at work that asked if I was okay or told me I looked “gothic” but the majority of the responses were positive. My peers seemed to dig the funky, edgier look as much as I did.

Why I love this color? Well, obviously because it’s purplish (sort of), but also because it’s a way of embracing the edgy black lipstick trend in a more wearable tone.

Makeup of the Day | Revlon Colorstay Sea Mist

Revlon Colorstay eyeshadow quad in Sea Mist initially looked like a “grab bag” of colors. A pink, a blue, a purple and a green. I honestly didn’t think it would work.

I was wrong.

This quad quickly became one of my favorites, and you can see why:

IMG_8950

When blended nicely, the colors create this “starry night” type look that is not too purple, too blue or too green. The light blue shade packed onto the lid catches the light perfectly and brightens up even my brown eyes. 🙂

Makeup of the Day | Purple, Purple, Purple, the Color of the Year

It’s no secret that my favorite color is purple. It’s the color of royalty and also, Sephora has name orchid the color of the year. I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I’ve been wanting to do a fully purple look for a while. Here’s my look:

IMG_8368

It may be a bit over the top for most people, but I absolutely love it. I’d probably wear this look at night instead of during the day.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS | Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette

Urban Decay’s Vice2 Palette… all I can really say is HOLY PIGMENT! This was my first Urban Decay palette and honestly, I never understood what the hype was about until I swatched it.

Check out my first impression / swatches here:

Overall, the plastic packaging looks somewhat tacky but it is definitely sturdy and could withstand travel. The eye shadow colors themselves are incredibly pigmented and varied enough that you could wear this palette from day to night.

Here are two looks I’ve worn recently using only the Vice 2 Palette.

IMG_4501

Even though the palette is a bit pricey, you get 20 eyeshadows so it comes out to about $3 each. Not bad. Overall I’d definitely recommend this palette if you aren’t afraid to go beyond neutrals.

Do you have the Vice 2 palette? What did you think of it?
